Sororities & Fraternities

Sorority and Fraternity Life at IU

Sororities and fraternities have been part of Indiana University since 1845.

More than 8,000 students are members of the IU Bloomington sorority and fraternity community. Our members are held to the highest standards of student safety, academic achievement, good citizenship, and diversity and inclusion by Indiana University and their respective national organization.

The IU sorority and fraternity community is a place where accountability is both encouraged and celebrated, with annual assessment and awards.

Our vision

Our vision is to create a consistently positive sorority and fraternity experience that will produce well-rounded citizens with high character who act with respect and integrity. Together, we will strive to promote a culture of care and excellence at Indiana University that will enable students to grow and succeed within the community and beyond their time at IU.

Our mission

Our mission is to ensure student safety and academic achievement at all times. The safety of our students is paramount, so we will create a safer social environment with a high level of organizational and personal accountability for all members, chapter advisors, and alumni. As an academic institution, enabling academic achievement for all members is an expected outcome of our work.

Greek housing

Sorority and fraternity houses are private properties managed by alumni corporation boards. Chapter houses line the perimeter of the IU Bloomington campus, each with its own set of house rules, fees, and move-in dates.
