Parents Advisory Board
Are you a parent who is interested in getting involved at Indiana University?
Bloomington's Parents Association Advisory Board serves the university in a variety of ways. Each year Advisory Board members share their time, talent, support and treasure to further the mission of the Parents Associations and the Division of Student Affairs.
Parents attend board meetings twice a year, in November and February, and share input with the Dean of Students and Division of Student Affairs about timely campus and higher education topics of interest. Parents learn about current issues, programs and events and have been able to share that information with other parents. Parents serve on one of four board committees: Admissions and Alumni, Student Well-being, Careers, and Communications.
Parents sponsor or host programs for prospective students and parents in key geographic areas. Parents attended and meet with prospective students and parents at Admissions sponsored “IU Previews” in their local communities as well as serving as ambassadors for IU. Board members have also assisted with Orientation, may be invited to speak on a panel with other parents, assist with “Move-In”, Homecoming, Greek Awards, and other campus activities.
Parents receive training from Division of Student Affairs staff on how to support their own student, and other students and families who are part of the IU Bloomington family. Meeting staff from around campus and learning about initiatives and programs designed to help students learn and thrive during their time at IU and after graduation is a rewarding experience for parents and those with whom they can share their knowledge.
Parents provide leadership in supporting the fundraising efforts for the Division of Student Affairs. Tax-deductible contributions range from annual gifts to the Parents Fund campaign, to endowed funds for specific student life programs, as well as providing major gift support, and gifts in-kind. The Parents Association Advisory Board annually provides input to the Dean of Students on the allocation of Parents Fund money.
