Know How To Help
Know the Signs of Alcohol Poisoning and Drug Overdose
- Unresponsive to touch and sound
- Hypothermia -cold, clammy skin- or increased sweating
- Fewer than 8 breaths/minute
- Rapid heartbeat or slowed heartrate
- Mental confusion or hallucinations
- Convulsions or seizures
- Nausea or vomiting
- Turning blue, or pale
If someone falls, check for other injuries.
The Indiana Lifeline Law – You Won’t be Punished for Helping!
The Lifeline Law provides immunity to Hoosiers under 21 who call for a person experiencing a medical emergency, such as alcohol poisoning, or sexual assault. The law provides immunity for the following:
- Public intoxication
- Minor consumption
- Minor transportation of alcohol
- Minor Possession
In order to receive immunity, the person calling for help must:
- Provide their full name and any other relevant information requested by law enforcement and first responders
- Remain on the scene until law enforcement arrives
- Fully cooperate with authorities on the scene
