Know the Signs of Alcohol Poisoning and Drug Overdose
  • Unresponsive to touch and sound
  • Hypothermia -cold, clammy skin- or increased sweating
  • Fewer than 8 breaths/minute
  • Rapid heartbeat or slowed heartrate
  • Mental confusion or hallucinations
  • Convulsions or seizures
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Turning blue, or pale

If someone falls, check for other injuries.

The Indiana Lifeline Law – You Won’t be Punished for Helping!

The Lifeline Law provides immunity to Hoosiers under 21 who call for a person experiencing a medical emergency, such as alcohol poisoning, or sexual assault.  The law provides immunity for the following:

  • Public intoxication
  • Minor consumption
  • Minor transportation of alcohol
  • Minor Possession

In order to receive immunity, the person calling for help must:

  • Provide their full name and any other relevant information requested by law enforcement and first responders
  • Remain on the scene until law enforcement arrives
  • Fully cooperate with authorities on the scene
