About Behnaz
Behnaz comes to CAPS after working at Bloomington Meadows Hospital for about six years. She has experience in providing therapy and leading teams of counselors, nurses, and mental health technicians in managing emergency cases, as well as post-stabilization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient experience.
Behnaz has experience in working with families, couples, and individuals experiencing distress related to anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, OCD, as well as those needing immediate stabilization as a result of a severe mental health illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance induced psychosis, etc. As a mental health clinician, Behnaz draws on cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and family-systems theories. Behnaz fluently speaks five languages and is trained in multicultural counseling and has worked closely with a culturally diverse group of individuals. She speaks fluent Dari, Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, and English.
Aside from her inpatient treatment experience, Behnaz is a doctoral candidate in Communication Disorders, Counseling, and Educational Psychology at Indiana State University. Additionally, she has taught for Indiana University as well as Indiana State University, providing instruction and live supervision for master’s level, clinical mental health students. Behnaz enjoys reading and expanding her skills/research in military psychology, law enforcement and EMT mental health, as well as wellness, trauma, and grief.
