Dr. Denise Hayes is a licensed Health Service Provider in Psychology (HSPP) and has a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Indiana University. Dr. Hayes formerly worked at CAPS as a staff psychologist, served as associate dean of students and director of counseling and health services at DePauw University and as vice president for student affairs at The Claremont Colleges. She has now returned to Indiana University to serve as CAPS Director.
This native of Indianapolis has published and presented on a variety of topics including African American women leadership, clinical approaches for students of color, and cultural competency within higher education. Her dissertation focused on single student mothers and their perceived support. As part of her commitment to her profession, she served as president of the American Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD).
As CAPS director, Dr. Hayes will focus on prevention, treatment, and maintenance for mental health on the Bloomington campus. Her clinical interests are broad and she will provide support for students through outreach, workshops, and clinical services.
