Veteran and Military Services

Serving those who have served

Indiana University’s connections to the United States military date back to the school’s founding in 1820. Many of IU’s first students, faculty members, and trustees had military ties, including some who served in the War of 1812.

IU’s proud tradition of military involvement has remained strong over the past 200 years. Today the IU Bloomington campus is home to more than 500 veterans and nearly 750 military spouses and dependents. The Center for Veteran and Military Students helps veterans and military-connected students make the transition from the military to IU and provides support and resources during their time on campus.

What we do

For veterans and military-connected students

We’re here to support IU Bloomington students from all branches of the U.S. military from their first day on campus until graduation. If you are a past or present service member or a spouse or dependent of a service member, we can:

For the campus community

We also serve the IU Bloomington community by:

  • Educating students, faculty, and staff about the needs of veterans and military-connected students
  • Providing guidance to military-related student organizations such as the IU chapter of Student Veterans of America
  • Coordinating campus recognition of military-related observances such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day
  • Maintaining IU’s Golden Book, a record of all members of the IU family who have served in the U.S. military
